Inauguration of Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Centre

The Central Molecular Research Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences has been upgraded to Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Centre with BSL-3 level (Biosafety level -3).

Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Centre in the Department of Biochemistry of SGRRIM&HS was inaugurated by Honorable Minister for Health, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Shri Surendra Singh Negi Ji and Honorable Parliamentary Secretary, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Shri Raj Kumar Ji on 19th of October 2015.The Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory is now going to cater to a number of new tests like Swine flu (H1N1), Bird flu, Genotyping and new tumor markers, Hepatitis C virus genotypes, besides the Biosafety level 2 and Level 1 tests like Herpes simplex virus, CMV, BCR/ABL, TB PCR, and HIV which were being carried out in full swing earlier.

On this occasion, Honorable Minister for Health emphasized on the importance of Molecular Diagnostics in curtailing the viral epidemics like Swine Flu, Japanese encephalitis and many more.

Honorable Parliamentary Secretary, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Shri Raj Kumar Ji also brought to light the importance of this Laboratory in being first of its kind in state and the country to be able to diagnoses disease like swine flu.

Prof. Dr. R.K. Singh a Senior Prof. in the Department of Biochemistry & Head of Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Centre addressed the gathering and made them aware about the different tests conducted in this advanced Molecular Laboratory and their importance in diagnosing diseases timely and decreasing mortality rate. He stressed that the future of Medicine lies with newer and cheaper molecular markers for early diagnosis of a disease and its management before the manifestation of the disease. Advance Molecular diagnostics Center being the only Laboratory to have Biosafety Level-3 facility, would help the people of Uttarakhand as they won’t have to rush to higher centers and timely treatment can be dissipated to patients helping in reducing Morbidity and Mortality.
