SGRRIM&HS Spearheads Environmental Conservation Through Plantation Drive In Doodhli Village

Dehradun. 20th July 2023. On the 18th and 20th of July, the Department of Community Medicine of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (SGRRIM&HS) demonstrated its commitment towards environmental conservation by organizing a transformative plantation drive in Doodhli village. This endeavor was carried out with the blessings and support of the esteemed Chairman, SGRRIM&HS, and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Shri Mahant Devender Dass Ji Maharaj. Also there is constant support from Shri Guru Ram Rai University in executing such activities by its Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr Yashbir Dewan  and its Registrar, Dr Ajay Kumar Khanduri. The  Principal, SGRRIM&HS, Prof. Dr. R. K. Verma has facilitated the movement of the Plantation drive .

Doodhli village has been adopted by the MBBS students under the Family Adoption Program by SGRRIM&HS in adherence to the guidelines set forth by the National Medical Commission (N.M.C.). The program aims to create a symbiotic relationship between the medical institution and the community, fostering an environment of mutual growth and well-being.

The plantation drive  was organized and planned under the guidance of Dr Puneet Ohri, Head of the department of Community Medicine, SGRRIM&HS along with support of Mr. Dhami ,Gram Pradhan of Doodhli Village. As a result Plantation drive saw enthusiastic participation from a team of dedicated medical professionals, including Dr. Puneet Ohri, Dr. Megha Luthra, Dr. Kajal Gupta, Dr. Neha Upadhyai, Dr. Vani Sharma, Dr. Shalki Mattas, Dr. B. Sudha Spandana, Dr. Vineetha Kothiyal, Dr. Romila Rawat, and Dr. Rupali Gupta. The commitment of promoting a greener and healthier environment exemplifies the values of SGRRIM&HS and highlights the institution's holistic approach to healthcare.

The event was a true testament to the power of collective action, as the team, along with the villagers, planted a diverse range of saplings, which included medicinal plants like Ashwagandha, Neem ,Amla etc and fruit bearing plants like Mango, Lichi, Guaua, Jamun, Pomegranate, orange etc. contributing to the conservation of local biodiversity and the restoration of ecological balance. By engaging with the local community in Doodhli village, SGRRIM&HS aims to strengthen the bond between healthcare providers and residents, nurturing a sense of shared responsibility towards the environment.

Commenting on the significance of the plantation drive, Dr. Puneet Ohri, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, SGRRIM&HS stated, "Our institution has always believed in the significance of community well-being, and environmental health is an integral aspect of that vision.
