HEART SURGERIES VIA SUPER MODERN M.I.C.S. TECHNIQUE PERFORMED AT SHRI MAHANT INDIERSH HOSPITAL

-HEART SURGEON CARRIED OUT BYE-PASS SURGERY BY AN INCISION OF JUST 2 INCHES
-M.I.C.S. IS THE SUPER MODREN FORMAT OF MODERN HEART SURGERY
Dehradun. Another very significant achievement has been added to the Heart Surgery Medical Services of Uttarakhand. The first M.I.C.S. Heart Surgery was performed in March 2016 under the supervision of HOD of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital’s C.T.V.S. (Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Surgery) deptt., Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant. After this, Heart Surgeries are being carried out via M.I.C.S. technique on a regular basis besides the general heart surgeries. M.I.C.S. (Minimal Invasive Cardiac Surgery) is the super modern format of modern heart surgery. In developed countries, very many heart surgeries are being carried out over the M.I.C.S. format. In India heart surgery via the M.I.C.S. technique was previously available only in metro cities like New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. An extra expenditure of Rupees 2 to 3 lakhs is to be borne by the patient opting for heart surgery via M.I.C.S. technique. M.I.C.S. is the modern trend of heart surgery and the aware patients opt only for this type of heart surgery. By using this method of heart surgery, the surgery is performed only by an incision of 2 inches on the left or right side of the chest. It takes around 4 to 5 hours for a heart surgery to be performed by M.I.C.S. technique.

On 11th Dec. 2017, a Press Conference was organized at the auditorium of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. While interacting with the Media personnel, Medical Superintendent Dr. Vinay Rai and Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant informed that another successful heart surgery was performed recently at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Patient Dinesh Singh, a resident of Haridwar, was suffering from a heart related ailment. The test report diagnosed blockage in two of the heart’s veins. Two times Angioplasty was attempted over the patient which proved to be a failure both the times.
Senior Heart Surgeon of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant advised him opt for heart surgery. The heart surgery of Dinesh Singh was performed on 20th November 2017 via the M.I.C.S. technique. Dinesh is healthy after the operation. He resumed walking on his own within less than 24 hours after the operation. On Saturday, he has been discharged from the hospital. The most important fact to be noted is that while being treated at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, the patient has to spend no extra expenses except for the original package of the treatment.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant (M. Ch., AIIMS, New Delhi) holds a vast experience of as much as 34 years in the field of Heart Surgery. Besides this, Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant is the only surgeon in the whole state of Uttarakhand who is performing heart surgeries via the M.I.C.S. method. A few months back, Dr. Ashok Kumar Jayant performed heart surgeries of 3 patients in 2 days via the M.I.C.S. technique. He closed the holes in their hearts via this technique and changed the valve of one of the patients.
Significant Points-

  1. In normal heart surgery, incision of just 8 to 10 inches has to be done under the neck, on the front over the chest and the bone of the chest has to be cut from the mid for the surgery to be done. Compared to this, in M.I.C.S. surgery, just a small incision of 2 inches has to be done on the left o right side of the chest.
  2. In normal heart surgery, the recovery of the patient takes a long time as the process of surgery is highly complicated and long. Compared to this, after the M.I.C.S. surgery, the patient recovers in just a short period of time. Moreover, the need for blood transfusion generally does not arise.
  3. In traditional and normal heart surgery, the mark of the incision is visible on the front of the chest. Especially in case of unmarried girls and ladies of young age, they do not agree for normal heart surgery, in which the incision of 8 to 10 inches is done. While this is not the case with M.I.C.S. technique.
  4. In M.I.C.S. technique, the patient recovers soon and its even not possible to make out that the surgery has been performed over the patient.

Dr. Parag and Dr. Hariom were also present at the Press Conference.
"M.I.C.S. technique is the most demanded surgery in foreign countries. This has been introduced in Uttarakhand state for the first time by us. M.I.C.S. is the super modern format of modern heart surgery. There has been enthusiastic response of Heart Surgeries performed via M.I.C.S. technique at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hopsital. I am optimistic that the patients of Uttarakhand and nearby areas will be able to reap the benefits of M.I.C.S. technique once they become aware about this technique’s availability. MICS technique availability in Uttarakhand will prove to be a boon for medical services in the state of Uttarakhand."
